Field trip
On the bus
Down the road
To see science
Out in the wild
The bog sucked my leg
Into the sphagnum
Florescent green
Clear almost
Like a bottle brush
Worn and bent
Or a loosestrife forest
Stagnant rich water
Peated deep
Stealing light
Into its void
Below the mat
Heating the soup -
Caramelized consommé
Peat harvested
Branches and more caught
Layers of time
Of the former lake
Before the beaver
Held, stillness
and the bloom; overtake
Exploring on my own
Watching the dragonflys arch
and fall
Hover in the air
Grasp a switch
Sway with the breeze
Pitcher plant
Deep living pipe
Green and red
Near fall, autumn
A pool of water
A pool, a soup
Nitrogen rich with flies
Trapped, meeting their fate
As food, as prey
For a voracious plant
