I have crossed His fence – v9 – this poem only

Almost as if in a dream,...

Revered words of the poet remembered,
challenging me to respond, to act,
from my memory, my experience,
in the woods, in those fields...
 
I have crossed ancient walls,
lines drawn, written for others,
fences between their fields, their orchards,
Good Fences that make Good Neighbors.
 
I have wandered in his fields,
in the uplands that rise behind them,
I have slept overnight, alone, quiet,
in these woods, in these high places.
 
I have discovered the remnants,
abandoned walls in the forests,
lost to time, to rusted barbed wire,
meant to keep others out.
 
I have traversed these precious lands,
into a place of peace, of quiet, of solitude,
I have traveled Roads too often Not Taken,
in that wild, out in this world.
