The pain on her face – v3

Seeing her little Star of David,
words in Hebrew, of love,
hanging around her neck,
anxiety imprinted on her face
asking her about this weekend,
terror in the Promised Land…
 
The pain on her face, searing,
palpable, so telling, present,
pausing to collect herself,
her one word "horrific", so correct,
bleeding from her lips, a prayer,
knowing there is more to come…
 
Sharing our faiths, our beliefs,
our collective humanity, pain,
all children of the same Father,
the one Creator, different sheep,
sharing the same story, the law,
all thinking about this present terror…

About a 70-year-old customer at Dollar General who said she has worn a
necklace with a little gold Star of David for 60 years; conversation a less than two days
after the international horror about the attack by Hamas on Israel October 7, 2023.
