email of 1/25/2010 from General Board of Church and Society, The United Methodist Church

Just 48 hours left . . . (now 30+ hours to go)

Dear Raymond,

In two days the President will address a joint session of Congress to present his State of the Union Address. Reports from the White House indicate the text is still being written but that the central theme will focus on the “middle class.”

While we know many middle-income Americans are straining to make ends meet, we must not allow our elected leaders to ignore the plight of those in poverty who are struggling to find food and shelter and meaningful employment. Help us shape the conversation about our economy and tell President Obama to put those at the bottom of the economic ladder at the top of his economic agenda.

Thank you for making poverty a priority! Please spread the word to your friends, family, and church community. And if you haven’t yet, please sign our prophet-driven campaign pledge. 2010 will provide many opportunities for us to give life to the words of our church and truly focus attention on the needs of those living in poverty.

Yours for Justice,
