Not by Waters but with His Blood

The sign of the rainbow
the promise of God
never to destroy again by the flood
a covenant of love
offered by God
never to destroy all of life

In the centuries since then
the millennia gone by
the law, the reign, the prophets
to train, to teach, to lead the people
the sin he knew then continues in us
never by works to be saved

Only in the coming of Christ
able to be saved, by grace alone
reconciled by his sacrifice
God taking on our sin
saving us not by waters
but with his blood alone
