She was a regular, I knew her,
but everything was different,
tortured in this moment,
her face blotchy, mottled,
twisted in pain, in anger,
I instantly knew why…

I saw her little Star of David,
hanging around her neck,
words in Hebrew, of love,
anxiety imprinted on her face
asking her about this weekend,
terror in the Promised Land…
palpable, so telling, present,
pausing to collect herself,
whispering one word "HORRIFIC",
so correct, bleeding from her lips,
a prayer, knowing there is more to come…
our collective humanity, pain,
all children of the same Father,
the one Creator, different sheep,
sharing the same story, the law,
all thinking about this present terror…
