The Beast is on the prowl, the march – v2

The Beast is on the prowl, the march,
on social media, on the streets, within our hearts,
spreading endless lies, spewing the bile of hate
mining our past, our history, of grievance,
of division, of racism and strife…
 
Poison in our veins, our bodies, our spirits,
a dark thread in our nation, in truth,
original sin, conquest, subjugation,
power above all else, injustice, race,
a line connecting slavery, the Klan,
Reconstruction, Jim Crow, the Dixiecrats…
 
Continuing the thread, the Southern Strategy,
a South rising again, segregation, division,
Civil Rights, hoods giving way to suits, to power,
poison loosed onto the streets, the darkness,
so close to the surface, rising, to boil…
 
Now rage out in the open, marching,
“Blood and soil” on their lips, fine people,
brown shirts, red hats, charlatans, propaganda,
different faces of the same coin, the bile,
choking the nation, the body, division,
rising to a crescendo, the present Big Lie...
