Killed by our Pride

our rebellion, our defiance,
our claiming authority,
putting ourselves in the place of God,
killed by our pride, our sin,
longing for control, to win…
 
killed by our pride, our rebellion,
denying God His rightful place,
losing our lives, aware we are naked,
lost in our guilt, our shame,
the wages of sin…
 
taking God’s place, His power,
claiming our pride, our will,
placing ourselves on the throne
as if we are immortal, forever,
killed by our pride, our self-deception…
