Roses of Crepe Paper – v3

Roses of crepe paper
in the vase before me
not silk, not rice paper,
softer, stiffer, than that.
 
Invisible hands, arms holding,
one another, together,
in the bouquet, the vase,
made of clear glass.
 
Dying, drying, fading
changing texture, silently,
becoming paper, frozen,
holding their perfect shape.
 
The bouquet, each blossom,
holding life tenuously, yet;
but progressing toward paper
to a permanent state of grace.
 
Soon dying, fading
changing texture, frozen,
roses of crepe paper
to cherish, to hold, to touch.
