I see our half-measures, our red lines,
the places we will not go, too timid,
afraid of our own shadows, the evil unleashed,
not standing in the breach with them,
on the wall of the watch towers,
in the trenches, on point against evil,
demanding that they be Tank Man,
as a people, as a nation, while we dither,
we meet and discuss, we gather,
in endless meaningless folly,
never fully taking a stand…
Where is our conscience, our morality,
our humanity as people, as free nations;
how can we see this terror and remain silent,
why do we allow these acts of terror, genocide,
what do we need to see to change within us,
within our hearts, our spirits, to speak, to finally act?
We see the dead, the dying, the destruction,
the terror with no defenses, no way to react,
to protect their children, their elderly,
their mothers and grandmothers, the innocent,
because they are too close to the border,
because we at too timid, unwilling to act,
to have skin in the game, making them proxies,
cannon fodder for a larger war, nations,
the rise of the tyrants, the oligarchs,
the complicity of our allies,
and the same truth on ourselves…
When will we rise to meet this moment, war,
evil,
these endless years of murder, repeating, terror,
daily images of carnage, of destroyed, shattered lives
and yet we sit in our comfort, too timid, quiet,
while Russia eliminates an entire people,
while we allow them to erase Ukraine?
