Only to die in #Moscow – v2 #Assad

A pyrrhic victory only,
for a few moments, truly
though he may not know it,
his escape will be short-lived,
avoiding the assassin’s bullet…
 
His flight from his capital, Damascus,
under the cover of darkness, lies,
this madman, this unholy tyrant,
the brutal warlord running,
quickly, just in the nick of time…
 
But his protector is no hope for him,
for his days too are numbered,
his fate is self-evidence, prophetic,
escaping the noose in Damascus,
only to die in Moscow…

The fall of their tyrant – v2

With the whole world watching,
not believing our own eyes,
something extraordinary,
seemingly impossible, real,
advancing toward Damascus,
unfolding in real-time…
 
So quickly he fell from power,
paper dynasty, a lie, in truth,
overthrown by his people,
for freedom had come,
too long dormant, in hiding,
emotion overflowing, now…
 
How long he had ruled, brutally,
dictator, the strongman,
the fall of their tyrant,
escaping the gun, in flight,
tormentor of his people,
wait for the judgement seat…

The fall of their tyrant

The rise of Hitler – v5

The rise of Hitler, of Mussolini, Marcos,
Orban, Putin, any strongman in power,
corrupting human hearts, propaganda,
lies gathering the weak, the gullible,
becoming a movement, a cult of personality…
 
No turning back, no returning,
from the rise of this madness,
a gathering storm of grievances,
a threat too present, too grave,
soon there will be blood in the street…
 
The Leader demanding loyalty,
fealty over facts, reality, above all else,
truth of the moment, corrupted,
anything to hold onto, to regain,
raw power above all else…
 
A slippery slope, a precedent,
silence of the masses, unbelieving,
martyrdom to madness, an army rising,
finding a group to blame, to torment,
history that is too easy to repeat, now…

That day has finally come,
a day that comes to many dictators,
throwing off shackles of autocracy,
Freedom will surely come...

The tide has turned against you,
Freedom is on the march…
 
Maduro, your minutes are numbered,

The rise of #Hitler – v4 #cult

The rise of Hitler, of Mussolini, Marcos,
Orban, Putin, any strongman in power,
corrupting human hearts, propaganda,

Become, a movement, a cult of personality.
 
No turning back, no returning,
from the rise of this madness,

The #Beast on the prowl

The Beast on the prowl, the march,
on social media, within our hearts,
spreading lies, spewing the bile of hate
connecting to our past, our history,
of grievance, of division, of racism and strife.
 
Like poison in our veins, our bodies,
a dark thread in our nation, in truth,
original sin, conquest, subjugation,
power above all else, injustice, race,
a line connecting slavery, the Klan,
Reconstruction, Jim Crow, the Dixiecrats…
 
Continuing the thread, the Southern Strategy,
the South rising again, segregation, division,
Civil Rights, hoods giving way to suits, to power,
poison loosed onto the streets, the darkness,
so close to the surface, to boil.
 
Now rage out in the open, marching,
“blood and soil” on their lips, fine people,
brown shirts, red hats, charlatans, propaganda,
different faces of the same coin, the bile,
choking the nation, the body, division,
rising to a crescendo, the present Big Lie.
